Smithbucklin Executives Recognized as Association Forum’s Forty Under 40 Honorees

Smithbucklin is pleased to announce two association executives were named as 2023 Forty Under 40 honorees by the Association Forum. This honor represents the nation’s top 40 young leaders in the association and nonprofit community who have demonstrated remarkable contributions to their organizations and the association industry as a whole.

Marlee Honcoop, CNP, is the senior operations manager for the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS), both Smithbucklin organizations. Under Honcoop’s leadership, each organization experienced membership and financial growth. As a lifelong nonprofit advocate, a career in association management gives Honcoop the opportunity to continue building relationships with volunteers, industries, and the next generation of association professionals.

Guilherme Lopes, MBA, serves as the executive director for the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT),
a Smithbucklin client. The association has grown significantly within the past three years and achieved its highest membership count in 40 years of history. Lopes is also a devoted diversity, equity, and inclusion advocate for creating a culture of inclusion within Smithbucklin, ISTAT, and the association industry.

"These awards are a testament to the exceptional leadership and dedication that Marlee and Guilherme have consistently demonstrated throughout their careers," said Jim McNeil, president of association management at Smithbucklin. “Their achievements not only reflect their personal commitment but also their valuable contributions to the nonprofit sector.
We are proud to recognize their efforts and celebrate their impact."

Honcoop and Lopes continue the recognition of Smithbucklin employees as Association Forum Forty Under 40 recipients.

“Association Forum is delighted to introduce this year’s cohort of changemakers. This gifted group is a profound source of inspiration for our entire community,” said Artesha Moore, FASAE, CAE, president, and CEO of Association Forum. “These leaders embody the principles of new power leadership by demonstrating their unwavering dedication to using intrapreneurial energy to explore and embrace innovation within the industry.”
