UN Habitat 2017 Youth Week
BY INCON PREFERRED SUPPLIER: GOYANG CONVENTIONS AND VISITORS BUREAU
The Youth Week 2017 Korea Conference was hosted by Youth Now and UN-Habitat and supported by Goyang CVB. Approximately 1000+ youth from Korea and 19 countries around the world gathered in Goyang, Korea to state their firm commitment to the peace agenda and youth involvement. Goyang CVB had two main challenges for YOUTHWEEK 2017:
Develop relevant Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) case studies for the event using Goyang's City resources.
To find budget and eco-friend accommodation that can accommodate most participants who were primarily youths, including college students.
As August is the hottest season in Korea, Goyang CVB needed to consider their clients’ health & well-being. During the day time, participants needed to be in an air-conditioned area or in cases of unavoidable outdoor activities, shaded area needed to also be provided.
2/3. ACTIVITY LOCATIONS:
Goyang CVB closely coordinated with the city government and found two suitable sustainable places to accommodate the day activities: Lake Park, the largest artificial urban lake in Korea, and the Hyundai Motor Studio, the representative Corporate Social Responsibility project for their Sustainable Development Goal project.
Goyang CVB and the Goyang city government sponsored the KINTEX camping site which was within walking distance of the main venue. The site included 83 camping spots & 10 caravans. This allowed more than 300 youths to stay at the camping site for free with cooking, additional tents and local food also provided.
The event attracted approximately 1,000 youth participants spanning 15 conference sessions.
The free sponsored camping accommodation was used by 200 youth participants.
Goyang CVB formed a strong working partnership with UN Habitat. Both organisations were pleased with the event and agreed to hold another youth conference in the future.
“It was a wonderful experience to have our international Youth conference in Goyang City. We shared a lot of ideas and inspirations through all the materials and services provided from this perfect MICE city. We will definitely have our events in Goyang again in the near future.”
