INTRODUCTION

In 2003 CPO HANSER SERVICE (CPO) became the Core PCO for the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN) Congress. CPO’s primary focus was on the sustainable improvement of services for the participants and increasing the financial surplus for the association.

Since becoming the Core PCO of the DGPPN Congress, CPO has increased attendance from 1,800 participants to 9,500 participants visiting from 49 countries, making it the largest congress in the field of Psychiatry in Europe.

WHAT IS THE DGPPN CONGRESS?

DGPPN Congress

The DGPPN is the largest scientific medical association focussing on mental health in Germany. It pools the competence of 9000 doctors and scientists in the fields of psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics who work in university and non-university hospitals, in office-based practices and in research. The DGPPN holds a yearly Congress in Berlin with a different theme every year, covering a wide range of fields affecting mental health from research and clinical practice to social issues and human rights.

OUR SOLUTIONS

01.

We created a core office staff as an integral part of our services. CPO team members continuously took care of the congress and its active participants all year round. For instance, CPO staff personally monitored and managed the electronic submission of abstracts so that abstract handling was not left to the anonymity of a software system.

02.

We utilised our web-based congress information system CO CONGRESS ONLINE® to deliver updated and comprehensive information about the congress. At an early stage each year the congress programme was generated and made available to delegates. Each participant had the ability to create their own personal congress programme schedule from over 600 sessions and 2,100 submitted abstracts, all available via CPO's own app.

We provided exclusive access to a physician portal of one of our partners with 170,000 physicians' addresses (in Germany alone) which was been a successful marketing tool in attracting delegates to the congress.

04.

We promoted and organised the DGPPN Academy which significantly contributed to the year-on-year increasing visitor records, offering more than 80 training workshops over the 4-days of the congress.

05.

We played a major role in handling the national and international CME credits for the accreditation of the congress with the relevant medical entity. CPO also organised the evaluation of the conventions and provided the ability for participants to either print their certificates onsite or download them after the congress.

06.

We successfully proposed and introduced Congress-Kindergarten, an initiative which was implemented to help offer parents childcare whilst they attend the congress.

07.

We integrated the High School Students' Congress which attracted more than 700 students from Berlin high schools each year, as well as the Teacher Congress and Patient Day.

08.

We managed a technical crew that ensures the smooth running of all lecture presentations which were transmitted to the lecture halls via the in-house network from a centralised media centre where they were coordinated by qualified media technicians.

09.

We welcomed first time visitors to come meet and network at the Young Scientists Lounge whilst all visitors were provided free access to use the congress’s internet centres and wireless LAN areas.

10.

We encouraged DGPPN to record the most important presentations as a webcast and to make these available via the DGPPN’s electronic library.
